Top 5 Best Plant Hanger Styles

Plant hangers are great options when you are trying to avoid losing floor space to your growing plant obsession. You can hang them from the ceiling to liven up the corners of your room. You can hang them in front of your windows to make the most of that natural light. Heck, you can turn your plants into a greenery chandelier and hang them over an island or table. One thing I will say is that if you are short, breaking out a step stool every time you want to reach your hanging plants and check if they need watering can get a bit old. So make sure you factor in your reach height when hanging them! Mine are hung just high enough for me to reach and stick a finger in the soil to check the dryness level. There are so many different types of plant hangers in a variety of materials and colors, you are bound to find something that matches your style and brings new life to your space!

To start out, of course we have to talk about the ever popular, macrame hangers. These are light weight and will blend in with many decor themes. When I water them, I’ll usually take them down with my handy reach hook tool and water them over a bucket. In the beginning I would take them out of the holder completely to avoid getting the hanger itself all wet, but that was just too time consuming and too tedious of a task to place them back in there and divvy up the plant stems semi-equally between the hanging strings. Now, I only do that for the pots that don’t have drainage. For the pots that do have drainage, I just water freely with them in the plant hanger and catch the excess with a bucket. The macrame dries fairly quickly, especially the ones in front of my windows.

Metallic hangers are also great options and are very versatile. They can work with boho, minimalist, glam, or industrial theme decor. I also have some of these in addition to macrame because I don’t mind mixing. Plus each room can have it’s own vibe! Metallic styles also offer a variety of shapes and colors.

Shelf style hangers are also fantastic additions to any plant collection. These are versatile because you can add two or three tiny plants to it or one bigger plant. The shelf design also makes it a bit easier to remove and replace the plant when watering; who doesn’t like simplifying watering day?!

Now this next bunch aren’t technically plant hangers but are somewhat similar in my opinion and these certainly can fall into the industrial style category!

Window plant hangers are an excellent addition to any space. The plants will love the opportunity to soak up the sun and you will love looking at them shine! Your neighbors will likely be fans of seeing them too! Just keep in mind that some plants cannot handle direct sunlight, so keep an eye out for leaf burn for any new additions to the window.

Lastly, a bonus style! Plant hangers with flair! These are colorful and glam plant hangers. The sun-catcher gems will certainly create a colorful display on your walls when the sun hits them just right. I couldn’t bear the thought of not sharing these gems. Should you add these to unique hangers to your collection, they will certainly be the most eye catching plants in your collection!

Here are some items that will likely be helpful for your hanging plants. I use the fixed hook for mounting directly on the top of the window frame. The spinner hook is great for mounting on the ceiling. The over the door hook I use to put a hanging plant on my back door that I rarely use. Then, for my fellow short friends, a pole will be a huge help in getting your plants off those high hooks.

Hopefully you have found something here that inspires you to grow your collection! If you have a favorite plant hanger that wasn’t featured here, send me an email, I’d love to see it!

Happy growing! 🪴
